Composition and Performance by Vera Six

~°~*~°~

One day the LORD will free
all the captives of Zion,
and we'll be like dreamers,
our hearts full of joy.

~°~*~°~

All the world will praise the LORD
for the great things He has done,
so many great things to them,
so many great things to us.

~°~*~°~

We shall laugh and sing
and be glad that they are free.
O LORD,
set all the captives free
as the streams in the south.

~°~*~°~

They that sow in tears
shall reap and rejoice!
They that sow in tears
shall reap and rejoice!

~°~*~°~

He'll go out and weep
bearing precious seed,
but he will come again with joy
bringing in all the sheaves.

~°~*~°~

They that sow in tears
shall reap and rejoice!
They that sow in tears
shall reap and rejoice!

~°~*~°~

"Bringing in the Sheaves" Shaw (1874) and Minor (1880) is still sung,
today, in some places, although I've never heard it in my church.

Probably written in the period of the great 1800s revivals, thus
alluding to Mat 9:37-38 "the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers
are few, therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send
out laborers into his harvest."

...and before you guess on... I also composed it, and also sung it. And
I feel like it, too.

Yes, I was aware of that. My bad for not acknowledging your efforts
and your sharing to us. It was well crafted and presented - you have
a good voice to listen to.

Was it ment as a personal piece (e.g. devotional-ish)? or did it have
corporate singing in mind?

Like many psalms, Ps 126 smacks of an exalted state of elation due to
return home from captivity, and that eschatologal edge in the final 3
verses anticipating eternal blessings.

To me, the "reap in joy" v.5 ("reap with shouts of joy" in other
versions) would cue the emotive mood beyond the contemplative; like
one of those infectious Jewish dances, full of joyous movement and
vigour.

God's promises and blessings are something to sing about.
