Hi everyone,

A friend of mine has expressed his fondness of songs with a great story
behind them, and I'd like to compile a few CDs to make his daily commutes a
bit less dull.

So basically I'm looking for songs with a great story - here's a list I've
already compiled from memory, and a few forums I've visited. Please feel
free to add to the list!

1. Stan Ridgeway - Camouflage
2. Johnny Cash - The Man In Black
3. Johnny Cash - A Boy Named Sue
4. Henk Wijngaard - Stille Willie
5. Bob Dylan - The Hurricane
6. The Levellers - Fifteen Years
7. Bruce Springsteen - The River
8. Billy Joel - The Piano Man
9. Ugly Kid Joe - Cats In The Cradle
10. Johnny Cash - Hurt
11. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Mercy Seat
12. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Weeping Song
13. Marianne Faithful - The Ballad Of Lucy Jordan
14. Johnny Cash - One Piece At A Time
15. Neil Diamond - After The Goldrush
16. Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower
17. The Eagles - Hotel California
18. Simon & Garfunkel - The Sound Of Silence
19. Jeff Wayne - The Eve Of The War
20. Jimi Hendrix - Hey Joe
21. Elvis Presley - In The Ghetto
22. Hawkwind - Spirit Of The Age
23. The Royal Guaardsmen - Snoopy vs The Red Baron

The one that HAS to be on that list IMO:

44. From Small Things Big Things Come - Dave Edmunds (1980s?)

And a lot of blues songs (of course):

45. Louis Collins - Mississippi John Hurt (probably 1928 and 1966 or 1967)
46. Frankie and Johnny - various. I believe Mississippi John Hurt's version
is called Frankie and Albert.
47. Stagger Lee - various: Mississippi John Hurt, Taj Mahal (1969),
Lloyd Price, Dr. John (1972) etc. Aka Stack-O-Lee or the like.
48. C.C. Rider - various: Big Bill Broonzy (1930s?), Mississippi John Hurt,
Jerry Lee Lewis (1950s) etc. Aka See See Rider, Easy Rider Blues or the
like. Taj Mahal's version (1968) is called E Z Rider.

I actually thought of "She's Leaving Home", but if you want a more explicit
story song from the Beatles, there's always "Rocky Raccoon"....r
