There's a song called For Absent Friends on the early Genesis album "Nursery
Cryme" (1971) - did the singer sound like Phil Collins at all...?

Sunday at six when the close both the gates
A widowed pair still sitting there
Wonder if they're late for church
And it's cold so they fasten their coats
And cross the grass - they're always last

Just for the record , Phil Collins didn't sing for Genesis on Nursery Crymes
Peter Gabriel did.

Peter Gabriel did.
And just for the record, the album is called "Nursery Cryme" in the
singular, not Nursery Crymes, and it was in fact Phil Collins who sang For
Absent Friends.

Are you thinking of the Daniel O'Donnell song, Molly?

Our Special Absent Friends.
Daniel O'Donnell.

The time has come to say goodnight,
for every road must end,
to the ones who care ~ and they're always there ~
our very special friends.

Let's say goodnight to those we love,
and maybe shed a tear,
but before we close, let's think of those
we love who can't be here.

Let's raise a hand to absent friends,
for every road must end.
You'll always be there in our hearts,
our special absent friends.

And when it's time for us to go
and our long journey ends,
we'll never be alone, you see,
we'll be with absent friends.

Let's raise our hand to absent friends
for every road must end.
You'll always be there in our hearts,
our special absent friends.
